The good golden needle mushrooms must have a beautiful shrub along with all flowers are always at the same high. Normally golden needle mushrooms grow well in the cold in contrast the weather in Thailand are hot and humid which make it cannot be grown in a normal environments. Therefore, they all must be planted in the cultivation house that the temperature has always been controlled and adjusted to be cold.
Harn’s cooling system experts received an inquiry from a customer to design a golden needle mushroom plating house in Chiang Mai with the needs to build a planting house with constant temperature control in order to get fast produces along with good quality.
The inquiry was to design two types of cooling systems:
1.Culture Room
A small size used for culturing golden needle mushroom with the temperature controlled to be constant at 18 degree Celsius with still air and without the wind blowing in the room in order to prevent the fungus and prevent fungi or foreign matters to spread in the room.
2. Golden Needle Mushroom Plantation House
A large area with air conditioning system installed to adjust the temperature as needed and according to the load of heat while in the Golden Needle Mushroom are still in nursery, the temperature in the room is controlled at a certain temperature. After the golden needle mushrooms have been ready to be planted the room temperature will be adjusted to another temperature while the room must have a circulating air system for ventilation.
Inquiry 1: Design a culture room that controlled the temperature at constant and without air blowing.
A challenging design work to respond the customer’s needs
The culture room design principles of Harn is to use a cooling system design to imitate a single door refrigerator if we look at a single-door refrigerator, we will have found that in this refrigerator category, there is no fan for cooling but will use the running principle of the refrigerant through the “plate” – a cooling pad on the top of the cabinet.
When the refrigerant flows through the plate, the cold will start to cool and release the cold which is the nature of the air as the cold will fall to the bottom of the refrigerator and the heat from the bottom will be slowly pushed up to the top. This process is called Natural Convection for conditioning the air in the cabinet to be thoroughly cool.
Natural Convection is a process that allows the air to work naturally by the cold air moving to meet the hot air within the restricted area until the air inside the room is uniformly cool.
Harn’s cooling system is designed to have a cooling coil mounted on the ceiling with many points spread uniformly in order to be able to thoroughly cool when the refrigeration is turned on. Moreover, the coldness in the incubator will be slowly cool down until the room temperature is at 18 degrees Celsius. During a cooling stage in the room there is almost no wind occurs as customer requested.
Challenges from installing the evaporator
Due to the design, the evaporator must be installed on multiple ceilings therefore the welding of the refrigerant pipe system must be well planned in order that the refrigerant can run to every evaporator throughout while letting the coolness come out evenly. Whether the evaporator is not uniformly released, the temperature in the culture room will not be able to be controlled.
Even though there is no a principle of cooling with the fans installed and it is resulted in the cooling system makes the room cool slowly because there is no fan that helps to blow the cold fortunately this can be fixed by turning on the cooling machine before leaving the work at least one to two hours to allow the room to cool thoroughly.

- Selected only necessary cooling equipment and suitable for the area
- Calculated the amount of the evaporator in relation to the cooling area as much as possible in which if it is able to reduce the amount of the evaporator, the cooling unit will work harder and resulted in frequent ice cooling on the evaporator and will be time wasted and costing to turn on the heater to defrost.
- Choosing the right evaporator for cooling as if the temperature dropped only one Degree, it consumes 3 percent more of electricity consuming.
- Design the method of installing the piping solution in every evaporator thoroughly because if the air inside the room is not uniformly cool, the temperature sensor (Termostat) will not detect the temperature correctly causing the computer does not cut or stop working which results in wasting more power.

Once the mushrooms have passed the culture, they all will be nursed in a mushroom nursery with the temperature controlled for one to two months to allow the mushrooms to grow up. Inverter helps to maintain a constant temperature because while the mushrooms are growing, they will cause the unstable heating and resulting the temperature in the room is unstable when the inverter detects the temperature instability it will cool down the temperature in the room to be balanced and allows the compiler to not load too much heat.
